CORE CLASSES ANNOUNCED FOR 2015 TECH TREK WA CAMPS!
The following core classes will be offered at both Pacific Lutheran University and Eastern Washington University:
App Inventor. Invent the Next Angry Birds! Develop your own apps and learn basic programming skills in the MIT App Inventor course. (Prerequisite: Each camper must have a personal gmail e-mail account. You can set one up for free at: gmail.com)
Robotics. Campers will build (engineer) and program (computer applications) model robots.
Physics/Ballooning. Campers will construct beautiful 9’ tall hot air balloons which they will launch and retrieve at week’s end. Hands-on science activities include related physics concepts of gravity, buoyancy, density, air resistance, pressure, and fluids.
PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY
“Clean” Chemistry. Learn all about chemistry while you mix just the right ratios of chemicals and substances to make soap! Learn about the pH scale, chemical and physical properties, and chemical and physical reactions.
Crime Scene Investigation. Investigate how evidence is used to solve crimes in real life, not according to television.
Marine Environment Biology. We’ll look at watersheds, estuaries and marine environments through several experiments, art projects and dissection. So, hold your nose and jump in for some science fun!
EASTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY:
Global Climate Change/Homes and Habitats. Campers will learn about global climate change through building small prototypes (models) of the structures. Campers will also research and understand that better-designed houses that use less energy for heating and cooling can have an effect on the climate.
