Is Tech Trek right for my daughter?

Tech Trek is an exciting and engaging one-week summer camp for girls featuring hands-on science and technology classes, a fun and educational field trip, opportunities to meet inspiring women role models, and a unique college campus experience. The purpose of Tech Trek camp is to increase knowledge, interest, confidence and positive perceptions of women in STEM.

Your daughter is a good fit for Tech Trek if she is currently in the 7th grade and interested in math and science with the potential to excel. To apply, girls must be nominated by their science or math teacher and supported by an AAUW branch. Tech Trek is looking for girls who have not had the opportunity for experiences like Tech Trek, but are excited to learn new things and challenge themselves. The ideal Tech Trek camper cooperates with teachers, shows respect for other students, regularly participates in class discussions, and makes positive choices for herself in and out of class.

Tech Trek Really Works!

Pre-and Post- surveys confirm that campers receive a GREAT STEM camp experience and rate the classes, teachers, staff and even the dorm rooms as Good to Excellent. The campers make significant gains in their knowledge of STEM careers and credit their Tech Trek experience with increasing their confidence and interest in advanced science and math classes. Statistical analysis of nearly 600 responses over five years of camps produced results such as these:

  • Campers show significant gains in knowledge, interest, and confidence in STEM as a result of attending Tech Trek
  • Camp experience leads 87% of campers to plan for degrees in STEM fields in college
  • The greatest gains in interest among campers are in computer science and computer engineering, fields where women are currently underrepresented
